Paul Auster’s “4321” made me think about the meaning of the word “masterpiece” 05/15/2019 Boris Leave a comment Once in an interview with Paul Auster I’ve read that thrpoughout his entire life everything has led him to the creation of the novel “4 3 2 1” – his magnum opus.

Paul Auster’s new novel, 4321 opens with a story wrapped around a pun. It finishes, nearly 900 pages later, with the revelation that the pun is part of a much bigger joke. Relax – I’m not going to spoil the ending.

Auster’s 4 3 2 1 is a throwback, a monument to a self-satisfaction that no longer holds, the last fat novel of a collapsed American pride. Rob Doyle’s most recent book, This Is the Ritual , is

The ending as well- it was something I had figured would eventually happen, that one of the Ferguson's would be the author of 4321, but I really wished that I wasn't right. 2017-10-08 It was by happenstance that I picked up a copy of Paul Auster’s latest novel 4321 (2017) a couple of weeks ago at a McGill University “take a book leave a book” site. I took the book only because the description on the back cover promised a story so out-there I couldn’t resist: “On March 3, 1947, in the maternity ward of Beth Israel Hospital in 4321 Paul Auster, 2017 Henry Holt & Company 800 pp. ISBN-13: 9781627794466 Summary Paul Auster’s greatest, most heartbreaking and satisfying novel—a sweeping and surprising story of birthright and possibility, of love and of life itself: a masterpiece. 2018-03-16 Paul Auster: 4321 2018-03-16 2017-01-18 2017-06-04 2017-01-29 4 3 2 1 is a novel by Paul Auster published in January 2017. At the time of its publication, it was the first new Auster novel to have appeared in seven years.

I just wish more people read it! I need to vent on it sometimes. If you haven't read any other Paul Auster novels, I do recommend him.

Paul Auster’s 866-page “4 3 2 1,” landing with a thud on the threshold of the nation’s bookstores, is plainly playing with that idea. “4321” is a tome– an innovative, annoying conglomeration of 4 unique possibilities for one man’s life. The author best describes the novel himself through the main character Archie Ferguson, who observes that “the story was released from the domain of jokes to become a parable about human destiny and the endlessly forking paths a person must confront as he walks through life.” With his new novel 4321, Auster can’t be accused turning out another version of the same old Auster novel. Nearly 900 pages, the book is more than twice as long as anything he’s yet produced.
